I Got a New Laptop (Finally)

I decided to take the plunge and purchase a new laptop for my affiliate marketing business. Actually I’ve been thinking about this for months, but I didn’t know if it was something I could afford. Yesterday while out shopping, my wife (the money miser of the family) asked if it was time to get a laptop, and had no objections to getting one right then and there. So we bought one.Now before you go off thinking we spent a fortune on a power house, we didn’t. We got an HP Pavilion dv6809wm from the local Wal-Mart. It’s actually a nice laptop considering it cost less than $600. It has a dual-core AMD processor, 3 GB of memory, a decent 120 GB hard drive, oh yeah, and ZERO graphics. It does have nVidia graphics, but they’re really bad at any kind of gaming. Which is actually a great thing, because this is our business laptop, so the fact that it doesn’t do well at gaming boosts business productivity.
No ability to play games… no temptation to play games… simple really.
The thing I like the most about a laptop is somehow for me, laptops are more indusive to writing and typing than other things. I just find it easier to type than messing around and doing other things. Perhaps it’s the lack of true mouse control with the trackpad (or a mini-mouse) that causes me to revert more to the keyboard. I’m not sure exactly. However since the Internet is all about content, where content really is king, this is another reason having a laptop is going to be a great asset to the business.
Besides, my desktop was over three years old and showing signs of age. Not that it couldn’t have sustained us at least another year, but a few of the parts (like the hard drive) are actually older than the main system, and I was starting to fear a hardware failure. I also was growing tired of constantly waiting for tasks to complete, etc. The laptop is a modern CPU with plenty of ram. Perfect to write, blog, and run my suite of affiliate marketing software and tools.
So that’s my big news for the week! I’ve already setup the laptop with Outlook 2007 configured for my e-mail accounts, got my RoboForm toolbar moved over, and am already setup so that it’s my main workstation. Within the next week, I suspect that the bulk of my toolset will be completely moved over.
Here’s to productivity!

NVIDIA bad for gaming? I guess you got something wrong. And nothing beats the mouse, nothing
I would definately not buy an AMD notebook again rather then an INTEL machine. But I guess for working purpose its enough
Have fun with it Jon.

Yeah, it has NVIDIA graphics, but it’s very low-end. Nothing that can handle much in the way of 3D gaming graphics. It’s fine for Vista Aero and using work related applications. Also you can get AMD notebooks that are just as powerful as Intel laptops, although I think that Intel chips tend to run cooler and take less power. It’s just this was the best laptop available within my price range, so that’s what I got!
Cool beans then
